In the preceding pair of sūrahs – Al-Fil and Quraysh (surah) – it is explained that the tribe of Quraysh has been blessed with the favors of peace and sustenance due to the Kaaba. These blessings have to have brought on them to worship the Lord of this Sacred House with all sincerity and have to have striven to satisfy the goal for which it became constructed and given of their custody. Surah al-Ma‘un is directed at the Quraysh, and its topic is to tell their leadership, of the doom that has been destined for them due to their crimes.
