Lahab is an Arabic word it is the name of Muhammad's half paternal uncle.
He was conceived in Mecca c. 549, the child of Abdul Muttalib, head of the Hashim family, and of Lubna bint Hajar, who was from the Khuza'a tribe. People from the Khuza'a clan were the overseers of the Kaaba for a few centuries before the Quraysh assumed control over the duty through their progenitor Qusai ibn Kilab. Abu Lahab was the half-uncle of Muḥammad since Muḥammad's grandma was Fāṭimah bint 'Amr of Banu Makhzūm family.

His unique name was 'Abd al-'Uzzā, however, his dad called him Abū Lahab in view of his magnificence and charm" because of his red (excited) cheeks. He is depicted as "a sly tidy individual with two locks of hair, wearing an Aden cloak" and as "very generous"

He wedded Arwā Umm Jamīl bint Harb, sister of Abu Sufyān (Sakhr), whose father Ḥarb was head of the Umayya family. Their kids included Utbah  Utaybah,  Muattab,  Durrah (Fakhita), 'Uzzā and Khālida.[6] Abu Lahab had another child, likewise named Durrah, who may have been conceived by another woman.[citation needed] He may likewise have been the dad of Matruh, a child destined to his slave Thuwayba

His little girl Durrah grasped Islam and turned into a storyteller of Hadīth. One is in Ahmad's Musnad, where she reports that a man got up and asked the Prophet, "Who is the best of the individuals?" He replied, "The best of the individuals is the most taken in, the most godfearing, the most to order excellence, the most to disallow bad habit and the most to join the kin."[citation needed]
